How it all began…..

Blake was a seafarer by trade. He had always loved food, cooking and coffee but had never considered operating a hospitality business. In 2016, Blake was convalescing at home in Newcastle after multiple operations due to a serious workplace injury which had undoubtedly brought his seafaring career to a premature and abrupt end.

While strolling on the foreshore, wondering “what now?”, Blake spied a call for tender poster in the window of the, at that time derelict, Lynch’s Prawns building. Blake already knew the importance of the history and story of this building but looking up and down the promenade, he also realised that this funny little yurt-like structure was the only building that remained as recognisable from the Newcastle harbourside which he fondly recalled as the stomping ground of his youth. From that moment Blake was determined to see this unique little structure that had served as a landmark on the foreshore for 40 years returned to its important role within the fabric of our City as a focal point for the Urban Community.
